Cage & Canopy Trailers

A cage trailer is a box trailer with mesh sides that double or triple the height, for green waste, moving house and bulky light loads. A canopy trailer takes the same idea and closes it in with a hard steel top or a canvas cover. We build both in Queanbeyan, plus the hi-vis and gull-wing versions that community fire units and emergency services use.

Common questions

Cage or canopy: which do I need?

A cage is open, lighter and cheaper, and suits garden waste, moving and loads that do not mind weather. A canopy is closed and lockable, so it suits tools, stock and anything you leave in the trailer overnight. If you are torn, a cage with a fitted canvas cover sits between the two.

How high can the cage go?

There is no fixed height. We build to what you ask for, and will say so if a height is going to make the trailer top-heavy for the loads you describe, or too tall for your garage door. Measure the door before you decide.

Can you add a cage or canopy to my existing box trailer?

Often yes. A cage bolts or welds to the top of the box, and a canopy needs the box and chassis to carry the extra weight. Bring the trailer in and we will tell you what it can take.

Do you build trailers for brigades and community groups?

Yes. Several of the trailers on this page were built for community fire units and emergency services, in hi-vis and safety yellow, with the layout set by the crew who use them.
